On a warm sunny but breezy 1st August, Seniors Captain Mervyn Beattie and his partner Mike Martin had an exciting game against Newquay Vice Captain Dave Cousins and Andy Hulk with closely contested holes which saw both sides make Eagle 2’s on the 3rd and 6th respectively. Newquay eventually won the match on the 18th after both St Austell players put their approach shots close to the pin only to see Newquay Captain roll in a 30 footer. After 3 more matches it was all square at 2 all however Newquay took all 4 remaining matches to win 6 – 2. The Newquay course was very dry and hard making most shots into the greens from tight lies. However the greens were in very good condition.
