“Many players expressed doubts about bringing County Week to St Austell, but those doubts have been expelled once and for all. We have been well looked after by the bar, catering and office staff while the greens staff have produced a golf course that has challenged the best and that the average golfer has, at times, found downright difficult.”
New Website for St.Austell Golf Club
Welcome to the new website for St.Austell Golf Club. The website is still under construction as part of a phased implementation plan to get the site running live as soon as possible.
Phase one is now complete with the main structure of the site in place and basic information included about the club and a couple of major events we had during 2011 such as County Week and our Centenary Year Celebrations.
Centenary Year 2011
To mark the start of St Austell Golf Club's Centenary Year, the Centenary Stone was unveiled on Saturday, 19 March.
This magnificent rock was inscribed and kindly presented by china clay company Imerys.
Representing them at the unveiling was club member Ross Facey, together with John Treglown, from club sponsors St Austell Brewery, and Glyn Rowett, Centenary Year Captain. Ewan Warren, the youngest member of the club, assisted them.
County Week 2011
A significant event in St Austell Golf Club’s Centenary Year was the Cornwall Golf Union’s Cornwall Amateur Championship Meeting, held for the very first time at St Austell in May 2011.
The first Championship was in 1896, and for many years it was held predominantly at the five courses: St Enodoc, Trevose, Newquay, Tehidy and West Cornwall. In 1974 Carlyon Bay was added to the rota, and since then other courses have been included.
