Junior Turkey Trot 2016

A frosty start, sunshine, Christmas jumpers, a festive starter and an abundance of junior golfers made for a terrific Turkey Trot! Over 50 young people took part in a multitude of competitions today.

In the 5 hole scramble, young Elliot Warren and Vaughan Hankins took the honours, just pipping Ollie Warren and John Prout into second.
The 9 hole scramble was a family affair with Monty, Frankie and Rob Smith winning, Dave Morgan and granddaughter Ruby coming second and Jack Ingram and grandad Dave coming in third.

In the 18 hole better ball comp, we were treated to some special scores:

  • 1st Ewan Warren and Simon Ferguson – Smith – 48 points
  • 2nd – Bradley Varcoe and Kevin Metherall – 45 points
  • 3rd – Eldon Douglas and Ben Pill – 44 points
  • 4th – Rhys And Gary Johns – 44 points
  • 5th – Harry and Matt Richards – 42 points

We also had the pleasure of awarding the Junior Golfer of the Year to Hayden Thornton. This is in recognition of not only his improvement in his game, but mainly for his attendance, sunny disposition, reliability and his excellent attitude towards our younger golfers.

We also said goodbye to Rhys as our Junior Captain, as he putted out on the 18th green. With knees trembling, Eldon Douglas prepared to drive off the first with the juniors ready to race to find the ball. Knees knocking or not, the drive that announced his captaincy was thunderous – long and unusually straight up the middle!

All our juniors and adults received a present after we were all treated to a sumptuous Xmas dinner.
