Match Result - Seniors Friendly v Looe at home - Won 71/2 - 1/2

The mixed Captains' (Colin Marshall & Sue Pascoe) v Vice Captains' (Simon Smith & Anne Brook) match was played today with the Captains' team winning by 51/2 - 41/2 matches. £70 was raised in the raffle for the Captains' charities. Thanks to everyone who took part and contributed.

Following the refurbishment of the Clubhouse a new Captains Board has been mounted in the lobby. This was not only designed and made by club member Dave Webber but was also donated to the Club by him. Thank you Dave.

The inaugural "Seaview International" Junior Open was held at St Austell yesterday and was supported by 51 juniors from 7 Clubs across the County. Congratulations to all the winners.  St Austell juniors were amongst the prize winners with Lucy Lund as best Nett Girl with a score of 74, Billy Couzens 2nd in the 0 - 9 category with a nett 67 and Jack Waterson 2nd in the 10 - 18 category with a nett 70. Match Results - Unfortunately the Men's CCC "A" Team were beaten 1/2 - 21/2 by Newquay in the semi-final at West Cornwall but did very well to get as far as they did.  Newquay were beaten by Trevose in the Final 2 - 1

Match Results - Congratulations to the Men's CCC "A" Team who, at West Cornwall today, beat Roserrow 21/2 - 1/2 in the first round and St Mellion
3 - 0 in the second.  They will play the semi final against Newquay tomorrow.

Congratulations also to the Ladies League team who achieved a very good away draw 31/2 - 31/2 at Carlyon Bay.

The Ladies Friendly team also had a good away draw 31/2 - 31/2 at Lanhydrock

Members will be sad to learn of the death of our member Jack Garland on 10th April. The funeral is on Monday 21st April at 1.30pm at Glen Valley Crematorium.

The Ladies St Dennis Cancer Open today raised a total of £670 for Cancer UK. In addition last year's Lady Captain, Pat Walker, presented a cheque for £1,000 to her charity for her year in office which was also Cancer UK.

Congratulations to the junior team who today beat Porthpean 4 - 1 in the County Junior Knockout competition.

Last Wednesday, 2nd April, a junior competition sponsored by the Daily Telegraph was held at Launceston Golf Club.  In the morning our junior member Jack Trays won his age division with a nett score of 72. In the afternoon a Junior/Adult Foursomes competition was played and this was won by PJ Lund and his dad Alan with 40 pts. Congratulations to all.

The Seniors held their Charity Day today and raised £252 towards the Captain, Colin Marshall's, charities which this year are those concerned with Motor Neuron Disease and Parkinson's Disease.

The ladies visited Looe in their first friendly match of the season today and unfortunately were beaten by 4 matches to 0.

Unfortunately the seniors, ladies and men's competitions on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday of last week were all cancelled because of rain.  The men's Mail on Sunday team played their 2nd round match at Treloy today but, unfortunately, were beaten 1/2 - 41/2.

Please note that the Cornwall Pro Golfers Alliance will be playing at St Austell this coming Wednesday, 12th March, and the course will be closed until approximately 3pm. There is to be no early morning golf on that day.

Congratulations to junior member PJ Lund on the remarkable achievement of winning the men's Winter League for the second successive year.  Dan Olver was runner-up with Steve Pill in third place.

St Austell Ladies today entertained St Mellion Ladies in the second round of the national Mail on Sunday competition. The team consisted of Shirley Best, Jackie Knight, Anne Brook, Sylvia Rawle and Elaine Harper. At the end of the match proper the score stood at 21/2 matches each. The rules of the competition require that the last pair take part in a sudden death play-off and unfortunately our ladies lost the match on the 19th hole.  Thank you to the caddies and the supporters who attended.

The final of the 2007 Foundation Cup was played today. Many congratulations to the winners, Trudie Medlin and Kevin Metherell who defeated Jackie & Graham Nile.  Brenda & Brian Marsh and Sylvia & Peter Williams were the beaten semi-finalists.

The newly refurbished clubhouse was officially opened last night by Mr John Rowe, President of the Cornwall Golf Union. The Club Captain, Steve Hunt, presented cheques for £1,000 each to his two charities the Sunrise Appeal and the Mid-Cornwall Parkinson's Disease Society. The Vice Captain, Colin Marshall, chairman of the committee responsible for the refurbishment, thanked the main contractor - In2build - and the sub-contractors for the professional manner in which the work had been carried out. He also thanked members for being so understanding during the 7 weeks of upheaval. Over 100 members and guests were present at the function.  Last year's Lady Captain Patricia Walker will be presenting her charity cheque at the Ladies St Dennis Cancer Open on 10th April.
