St.Austell Golf Club

This annual match between teams drawn to play for the Captains ( Alan Lund and Christine Brown) wearing pink or Vice Captains (Simon & Elaine Harper) wearing blue took place today with 24 pairs competing.

The day was organised by John & Ann Sweet with the format being greensomes matchplay. Everyone was asked to bring a raffle prize and this raised £76 for the Captains charity the Phoenix Stroke Appeal. In addition Brian Waters had a hole in one on the 4th and kindly donated a further £25 to this great cause.

The result of the match was a win for the Vice-Captains by 7 1/2 to 4 1/2.

There was some amusement as we came off the 18th to find Mark Claricoats car decorated appropriately with pink balloons as (you guessed it) he was playing for the Captains side. No one has owned up to the prank yet.

The mixed played a greensome stableford today with each player having a minimum of four drives each. The results are as follows:-

1. Sylvia & Pete Williams - 35 pts
2. Marion & Malcolm Sutton - 34 pts c/b

With 6 pairs playing away in Opens today the field was slightly smaller than usual. The conditions with the strong winds combined with a difficult format, each player having a minimum of 8 drives, made for tough scoring but Shirley & Will Gay came out winners with 38 pts. Full results are as follows:-

1. Shirley & Will Gay - 38 pts
2. Ann & John Sweet - 36 pts
3. Sue Pascoe & Chris Maggs - 33 pts
