St Austell 2 1/2 - Merlin 1 1/2
After two postponements due to inclement weather things were not looking good this morning with grey skies and rain in the forecast. However, with Merlin already here we agreed to play the match over nine holes.
In the opening game Vice-Captain Elaine Harper, playing with Ann Sweet, eventually managed to break her losing streak with half a point from her halved match. Gill Harper & Chris Lang pushed the home side ahead with a 3 & 1 win and victory was secured when Daphne Bunt & Josie Mather won on the final green.
The visitors gained a consolation point in the final game as Sylvia Rawle, guesting for an absent Merlin player, led her partner to victory. In their speeches afterwards both captains congratulated the staff on the excellence of the meal and the course and thanked Sylvia for stepping in when Merlin lost a player at the last minute.
