(click image to enlarge)We have a thriving Juniors Section at St.Austell Golf Club which was formed in 1971 by Jim Daly and Des Perrier. It has gone from strength to strength over the years and is supported by all sections of the Club.
The Juniors are well served by our professional, Tony Pitts, and particularly by his assistant, Russell Binney, who has developed a particular rapport with his youngsters during their weekly coaching sessions.
The Juniors now have a full golfing calendar, including the following cups:
- Libby Cup
- Junior Handicap Challenge Cup
- The Stidwell Cup
- The Stan Horne Cup
- The Under-21 Cup
- The T & G Trophy
Also, The St Austell Bay Coast and Country, A 36-hole open stableford competition for players under the age of 18 on 1st January, organised jointly with Carlyon Bay Golf Club, with players playing 18 holes on each course.
The Cornwall Golf Union promotes the George Bolitho Shield, a team matchplay format played in two leagues with the winners and runners-up in each league going through to a finals day to decide the winner, and the Cornwall Junior Team Championship – three pairs playing foursomes with the best two scores to count.
Finally, the Daily Telegraph tournament, a nationwide sponsored competition with stroke play events being held throughout the county. Points are awarded to participants depending on their finishing position, with the leaders in each region going through to a national final.
