Gill Shephard held her Ladies Captain’s Day today in aid of her charity Cornwall Hospice Care with all proceeds going to the Hospice. Entry was by donation and there was a raffle table full of lovely prizes. Judy and Jane from Cornwall Hospice Care held a stall in the bar area and had the very popular Hospice Xmas cards, calendars for next year, and many other items for sale.
The competition was entered by a total of 48 ladies who played a modified stableford format in teams of three with full handicap allowance. After the 9th green the ladies enjoyed pasties, quiche and other nibbles to fortify them for the second nine holes, cheerily served by Mary Carter and Anne Michael. Then, after finishing their round a glass of Pimms and freshly made scones with jam and cream awaited all ladies in the clubhouse.
There was a great atmosphere amongst our ladies many of whom continued their round in worsening conditions, despite a fine start to the day. Eventually, flooding of the greens led to the competition being halted and the remaining ladies on the course were called in.
Due to this it was decided to truncate the competition to be over the first 12 holes which all but three teams managed to complete. Therefore the stableford scores in the results below reflect this.
- Annie Lund, Lucy Lund & Claire Waters – 50 pts
- Wendy Kingdon, Sylvia Rawle & Sandra Phillips – 49 pts
- Kate Burford, Gill Dinnis & Elaine Harper – 48 pts

Totals raised on the day for Cornwall Hospice Care were:

Giving a fantastic total of £420 for the Ladies Captain’s charity.
In addition to this the Cornwall Hospice Care stall took £157, which when added to the above total gives £577 raised for the Hospice. Many thanks to everyone who supported the day so generously by donating raffle prizes, buying raffle tickets, and donating their entry fee to the charity. A special thank you to the helpers – Pansy on the raffle table, Anne & Mary in the halfway tent, Rob Shephard for being the starter and the photographer, Sue Pascoe for her help with much of the organisation and for checking the cards, and to Shirley and Tanya for helping draw the raffle. Also many thanks to our catering and bar staff for looking after our ladies so well, especially Howie for keeping the Pimms topped up. Last, but certainly not least, a big thank you to our greens staff for presenting our course so well and for cutting the hole on the 9th green well away from our hospitality tent!
