Ladies Cake Bake & Fund-raising Day

Ladies Captain Gill Shephard organised a fund-raising day at the Club on Thursday 13th April in aid of her charity Cornwall Hospice Care. The event was a ‘kick-off’ day to help publicise The Great Cornish Cake-bake Weekend that Cornwall Hospice Care is holding in May throughout the County. Our Ladies Section held a Raffle and a Cakes & Bakes Stall among other activities, while Cornwall Hospice Care were also there on the day with their famed ‘Teddy Tombola’ (every ticket wins a prize!).

An incredible total of £530 was raised on the day which was matched ‘pound for pound’ by the event sponsors Barclays Bank thereby doubling the total to a fantastic £1060! Our grateful thanks go to our lovely lady member Mandi Jago for enabling the Barclays sponsorship.

Thank you to everyone who baked delicious items for the Cakes and Bakes stall, to those who donated raffle prizes and other needed items, and to all the lovely ladies who gave their time to run the stalls, raffle, etc. Your support is so very much appreciated. And to all those members- men, ladies and juniors – who came into the bar and purchased our baked goods, raffle tickets, etc, we thank you most sincerely for your part in helping raise this wonderful sum of money for Cornwall Hospice Care.
Please note that there are a few raffle prizes – winners names attached – in the bar, please check if you are at the Club over this Easter weekend.

Winners of the other events/competitions held on the day are:

  • Silent Auction – Mounted prints by local artist Emily Nowell – “Jewelled Sea” won by Gill Shephard, “Garden View” won by Glyn Rowett.
  • Guess the Weight of the Cake – won by Jackie Nile.
  • Guess the Number of Chocolate Eggs in the Jar – won by Liz Murphy.

Congratulations to all winners!’
