Our History
St Austell Golf Club came into being in 1911 when a small band of golfing enthusiasts, led by Mr J. Baragwanath King and Mr F.L. Clunes, laid out a few holes at 'Rocky Park', on the western edge of the town.
In March 1913, as the game became ever more popular, the increasing members agreed to approach the Earl of Mount Edgcumbe with a view to leasing land at Tregongeeves and Mulvra farms to lay out an 18-hole course.
Centenary Year 2011
To mark the start of St Austell Golf Club's Centenary Year, the Centenary Stone was unveiled on Saturday, 19 March.
This magnificent rock was inscribed and kindly presented by china clay company Imerys.
Representing them at the unveiling was club member Ross Facey, together with John Treglown, from club sponsors St Austell Brewery, and Glyn Rowett, Centenary Year Captain. Ewan Warren, the youngest member of the club, assisted them.
County Week 2011
A significant event in St Austell Golf Club’s Centenary Year was the Cornwall Golf Union’s Cornwall Amateur Championship Meeting, held for the very first time at St Austell in May 2011.
The first Championship was in 1896, and for many years it was held predominantly at the five courses: St Enodoc, Trevose, Newquay, Tehidy and West Cornwall. In 1974 Carlyon Bay was added to the rota, and since then other courses have been included.
